Manitou Mounds
Just 20 minutes away is an historical site. As one of the most significant centres of early habitation and ceremonial burial in Canada, Kay-Nah-Chi-Wah-Nung has deep cultural and spiritual meaning to indigenous peoples throughout North America. As such, it has been declared a site of national historic significance for all to share. Located 55 kilometres west of Fort Frances, between the towns of Barwick and Stratton.
Livestock Auction Facility
Locally owned and operated by Rainy River Cattlemens Association sales barn for marketing of livestock.
Mud Lake
This is a western style old time “city”. Developed by a local couple, each building is a complete historical showcase featuring antiques, collectibles and oddities. Items date from 1900 to 1970. Visitors are welcome when the gate is open. Once a year Mud Lake City hosts an open stage music festival featuring local talent. In 2002 there were 35 musicians and over 800 spectators.
R.R. District Fall Fair
This event, held the third weekend in August each year, offers a midway, grandstand competitions, agricultural displays and stock car races. This event is well attended by area residents, as it offers an opportunity to meet and converse with old friends and acquaintances from Northwestern Ontario.
Emo Speedway
Cars from USA and Canada compete on a quarter mile clay banked track. The track is located in Emo.
Snowmobile trails
With the vast open area in which to travel there are well groomed trails throughout the district with beautiful scenery as well as enjoying the great outdoors.
Annual Community Christmas Party
Pot luck, come as you are family celebration. We have sleigh rides, card games, crafts for the children to do, visiting and getting to know your neighbour. There is always lots of food, singing and a good time. Senior of the year is awarded at this function and a visit from the jolly old man dressed in red.
Annual Sweetheart Tea
Tea, coffee, dainties and an auction. A great time is had by all and the event is not to be missed. This event is put on by Guthrie United Church.
Annual Fall Supper
Sponsored by the Guthrie United Church and a great meal with all the fixings and delicious pies to end the meal with.
Annual Mothers Day Fish Fry
Sponsored by the local rink committee this event is always a great turn out. Lots of fresh fish, family and friends.
